Homeopathy - Introduction, History, Law of Similars

Homeopathy as we all understand is the philosophy that is derived by the theory of treating “like” with “like”. It basically denotes that if a healthy individual consumes a considerable amount of a particular drug, there will be some reaction to his/her body. If the symptoms that occur due to this intake of drug are shown by an unhealthy person, then he/she can be treated by the same drug.

This theory was introduced by Dr. Samuel Hahnemann a German Physician. One day while studying about some medicines he figured that by the intake of certain medicines the body is triggered respond back with certain symptoms that are actually shown while the person is unwell. By this intake the body is stimulated to heal itself as there is a similarity in the remedy and the physical state that the body is currently undergoing.

This is considered to be a great way of treating a patient as the ailment doesn’t gets suppressed the patient’s body is forced in such a way that it gets activated to fight back until it attains its normal self back.

Another facts associated with this theory is also that a single remedy might cure symptoms that could vary from 40 to 4000 or even up to the extent of 15000. However, the effect of the medicine on a group of people having same symptom will always not necessarily be the same.

On some it’ll have a quick effect and on others it might take a longer time. This also depends upon the nature of the ailment that is if the disease is chronic or short term. But the more specifically the symptoms and the remedy are matched the quicker would be the recovery.

At the same time even if the symptoms and the remedy do mot get matched there will be either no side effect or very negligible side effect of the same.

Thus, in order to treat a patient with the best of the results it is imperative that there should be a complete match or similarity in the patient’s current state or symptoms and the remedy suggested by the homeopath. This is what the Law of Similarity is.
